“The Personal History of David Copperfield is the kind film that fills you with lightness and joy.” (PG) Rosie Knight

The Personal History of David Copperfield is a heart-warming, fresh, sharp-witted modern take on a classic tale. It puts a funny, clever and utterly charming spin on Dickens’ story of a young orphan who is able to triumph over many obstacles. (1 hr/59 mins)

Set in the 1840s, the film chronicles the life of its iconic title character, superbly played by the endlessly versatile Dev Patel, as he navigates a chaotic world to find his elusive place within it.  From his unhappy childhood to the discovery of his gift as a storyteller and writer, his journey is both hilarious and tragic, but always full of life, colour and humanity.

“Armando Iannucci and co-writer Simon Blackwell both respect and reinvent the novel to conjure a surreal cinematic odyssey that is as accessible as it is intelligent and unexpected.” Mark Kermode

The diverse and impressive cast of stage and screen actors produce an entertaining, theatrical big screen adaptation, bursting with fantastic comic performances.

“A sparkling adaptation of the original story that uses wonderful dialogue and physical comedy to paint a heartfelt, serious and timely portrait of social anxiety and inequality.” Richard Crouse
